photo by Deone Jahnke Today in the heartland it is almost 70 degrees and there are live birds flying outside my window who somehow found their way back home. This is a good sign. Spring is coming and it's a reason to think about new things and books and places and ideas….

And for me that means dipping into writing as if my hands and fingers and mind are on fire.

I've started the fifth novel and that means the fourth novel -- The Sunday list of Dreams is making its way through the editorial offices at Bantam Dell so that it can be resting in your hands next January.

To say that I am excited about Sunday List is the understatement of this wonderful day. I loved writing Sunday and doing the research was beyond a thrill and when I was doing my own editing -- which is never enough -- I kept falling in love with the story over and over again. I take that as a very good sign.

Watch the site for news about Sunday and further news about Annie Freeman's Fabulous Traveling Funeral, which was recently selected as a Books A Million book club selection. Whoooo!!! It has also been selected as an author title for a new book club promotion being launched this month by Bantam Dell and to make things even better it's gone into another printing.

Annie -- to say the least -- gets around.

I continue to be overwhelmed and humbled by the hundreds of emails I have gotten since Annie started her fabulous tour. The gracious openness of my readers and the women whose lives have been touched by Annie and my other novels is something I treasure.

Thank you for writing and letting me know how much the books mean to you. I will be sharing some of those stories and emails with you in a week or so. Watch the site for those as well and for some changes I am making following a fairly disastrous month as the reader interaction pages have been invaded by some very dark souls.

This morning I cranked up my new motorcycle and hit the highway for about 90 minutes with my wool sweater up around my ears and the last of what has been a consistent March wind blowing through the edges of my helmet. (Did you hear that mom?) By the time I got back here I had dozens of ideas for the new novel which I will reveal in bits and pieces as the months pass.

Let me say that it will be a lovely surprise and you will be involved in a world that is very familiar to all of you. And that is all you get for now...

My daughter made the varsity soccer team, so that pretty much takes care of any free time until June and my son is gearing up to graduate and accept all the responsibilities that come with being considered an adult. Good luck with that, oh son of mine.

Here's hoping spring brings you as many ideas and as much energy as it has bestowed upon me. Throw some radishes into the ground and get ready to dance naked all summer long.

Always,
