March

The birds are back, the snow bank that was close to the top of the roof is gone, and I can actually see a bit of green grass. It's spring up here in the tundra and we are all praying for a hotter than hell summer, which is really good writing weather for some of us.

Enough already of the cold because I am moving into a lovely section of my writing season and I'd love to be able to open the windows for crying out loud. But first -- let's forage through March.

The month started out with me unpacking from the tour and then spending lots of time watching daughter Rachel sing, dance, and act her way thorough A Chorus Line. It was a smash and as soon as I get a decent photo I will share one with you. This girl-woman was definitely sexy in her skimpy costume and dyed blonde hair even as we rushed to doctors as she was ill -- naturally -- and had no voice for the first two performances.

A huge highlight this past month was also the CD release party for Sunday List of Dreams by singer/songwriter Linda Smith from Chicago. Linda, as most of you know, was so moved by The Sunday List of Dreams that she composed several songs, recorded them and did a national release of the CD which you can now purchase from her website -- www.samedaydifferntgirl.com. Her party was a smash and she's now thinking of songs for the other novels as well.

I did manage to get in another golf lesson with fabulous golf specialist Margie Muzik and have been to the driving range and am ready to hit the links before I head back for another few lessons this month. I'm also going to work with Sharon Smith, who is a golf fitness and performance training expert and thank heavens -- a physical therapist. Margie is a former LPGA pro -- wow -- and Sharon is now working with several men and women pros, so I am in good hands. And yes -- there is going to be a golf "something" in a novel appearing in your living room soon. And I'll be glad to share my golf specialists with you -- send me an email and I will hook you up.

And yes ….I have been writing.

I did the first round of edits for the next novel, Searching for Paradise in Parker, PA. and am anxiously -- well, impatiently would be a better word -- waiting for the next round of edits once my fabulous editor, Kate Miciak, is finished with it. We completed the book jacket promos and they have a new photograph of me (Yes -- we touched it up. I'm 53 for crying out loud and no, I will not have plastic surgery because I worked REALLY hard for these wrinkles and I think they are sexy!) and you will be glad to know that Parker will be in your lovely hands next January.

My creative energies have been flowing into the sixth novel -- which you will see in 2009 -- and I am thrilled beyond almost all words because I will never ever run out of words -- about what is happening with this novel. Well, hell -- I am REALLY excited because the whole story has just nested itself inside of me and is expanding and flowing and the characters are keeping me awake at night. This is REALLY good news and something I have been inching towards for a number of weeks now.

This means that I will be in a writing coma for several months and well into summer as I write every day and into the night and when I am supposed to be sleeping and eating and breathing. I love this phase of my work and will share my progress -- and this book title -- in an upcoming letter.

As part of the research I am heading out for a quick trip with my daughter. She doesn't know this yet but there is someone her age in this book and she is going to help me with some research. Please do not tell her. She thinks this trip is just for fun and it will be fun even as I take notes and watch her every moment to get some age appropriate reactions.

My son Andrew is due home this evening for his spring break and I have a huge piece of meat cooking for him as I know he will be starving when he gets here -- just as I know he will be sleeping until 2 p.m. tomorrow morning as well. He's getting terrific grades, has found a professor who adores him and will mentor him through undergraduate and into graduate school and he is not in jail -- what more could a mother ask for…~!!

Madonna, my manager and partner, is busy juggling appearances and book talks and making certain that I do not say "ye" to everything so that I can actually write the next book for you.

I have a few new events to list this month and am happy to tell you that Bantam Dell is sending me back to Michigan in July for a small tour in Gaylord and Petoskey. Details will show up soon for those events.

Okay. I am on my way to the gym where I continue my now 11-month-long charge to be as fit as I have ever been in my life. I am averaging 5-6 days a week working out and I am very proud of that. Not much weight has fallen off the past two months so I am telling myself it is all turning to muscle. If you are not working out, exercising or moving fast -- get on it -- it will change your life….!!!

Here's hoping the Easter Bunny finds you and that she leaves you a lovely bottle of red or white wine in your basket and that you throw me a kiss when you have the first sip.

Dreaming of paradise……
