Dear Readers,

These days I am being kept company by two Mallard Ducks who are in a constant mating frenzy outside of my office window. I've named them after the characters in my fifth novel, and just so you know I am REALLY into the writing zone, I talk to them all of the time as well.

The Cardinals are also back -- named Dick and Pat after my parents -- and as I have always told the women I write for, the women I love, women everywhere, to Fly Like The Wind -- you can tell I have a thing for birds and everything else I can see outside my window.

Where to begin?

Annie Freeman's Fabulous Traveling Funeral has just gone into its third printing thanks to all of you who keep talking about her, the funeral, and what the story has done for your lives. I link my success, my ability to keep writing, and to clear my head of all these stories and characters, to you -- my readers and I remain grateful for your response, emails, letters and passing on any information about my books and writing. The candles I burn for my readers never ever go out.

Also, Bantam Dell, in conjunction with its mothership, Random House, has launched a new author book talk series and I am honored to have been selected by them as part of this new program. Check out my homepage to see how you can become a part of this project.

I will be able to announce the title of the fifth novel very soon -- it's a real barn burner -- and these past two months and May as well, are great writing weeks for me. I get up early (well, most days) open the windows to the day, crank on the coffee, get the morning newspaper (which I am addicted to) and then plod down the hall in my pink slippers to start work about 10 minutes after I get up. Unless there is a teenager crisis, I often stay in the office -- with occasional bathroom breaks and a lively afternoon workout -- until late into the evening.

During the next few weeks keep your eye on my events page. I will be doing some summer touring -- Chicago, Colorado, and Michigan for starters, and next week I am off to Honduras for a very quick four-day trip that plays into the fifth novel. New York, Pennsylvania and Arizona are also on the horizon, so stay tuned….and to the wonderful fan who invited me to Hawaii, I kiss your feet, and maybe a trip there -- in what? December, January? Sigh.

As we inch towards June I am also getting ready for my son Andrew's high school graduation with more than a few tears in my eye. Oh, he's ready to Fly Like The Wind, himself but there really is no way to prepare for a child's real takeoff…is there? Andrew is a terrific young man, he will be attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison in fall, and he continues to be one of my two greatest achievements.

His sister, the tall 16-year-old, lives inside of a soccer ball as a varsity high school player and just had her first little fender bender in the hail-damaged red car. Welcome aboard babycakes.

It's time to fill the bird feeders and put my fingers to the keys here in Radishland.

Wishing you all a long, wonderful spring….I remain…..

Always,
