Well, yikes…..here it is a few days into June and it dawns on me, in between rain drops here in the Midwest, that I need to get the letter written. I hope this is not a sign of what is to come this month or I will be so far behind I think I am first.

Part of the reason the letter is a little late is because I just, and when I say just I mean like a few hours ago, got back from a whirlwind trip to New York City. I attended Book Expo America, a very large book event that is attended by booksellers and buyers and agents and writers and librarians and lots of book people, from all over the world.

I was honored to be one of the speakers at a special breakfast hosted by my publisher, Random House, where I met some fabulous librarians and was given the chance to talk about my writing and my life as I write. I also had a ton of meetings, signed a lot of books, and met some of the most wonderful booksellers. I am very tired but it is that good kind of tired that happens when you get to do something you love.

As I was leaving for New York I was also notified that my first novel, The Elegant Gathering of White Snows has just gone into its 14th printing -- close to 200,000 copies. Can you imagine? It really brings me to my knees and is also fabulous encouragement. The power of words and writing is alive and well and I know it for certain.

June promises, thank heavens, to be a month when I will mostly be right here in the writing saddle. I am tearing into the sixth novel like a thirsty desert rat and cannot wait to have a succession of days and nights so that I can get this story out of my head and heart.

I wrapped up Searching for Paradise in Parker, PA. just before I left for the east coast and I have now seen the cover, which I absolutely adore, and believe me when I say I cannot wait for you to see and read this novel. I am very proud of it and excited to see and hear your response. Two ideas -- bring tissue and something to laugh into when you start the book.

In July I'll be doing a small tour in Michigan and I hope some of you can join me in that lovely part of the country. I'll be doing a little golfing when I am over there as well, so practice ducking. My new clubs should be here any day and I feel like a kid the night before Christmas.

The princess daughter is off to Spain for two weeks (wish it was longer) so we are getting her ready for the trip as her big brother leaps into a fulltime job as a counselor at a hospital near where we live. Andrew, the big brother, is majoring in psychology and will be working with inpatient children at this marvelous treatment facility. He's also keeping his part-time job as a waiter so we will know where he is most of the time.

I'm heading over to my parents for Father's Day this week and count every second that I get to spend with my ailing father as a blessing. We'll have a little wine, laugh a lot, and you know I will let him know how much I love him.

I'm off to do a book event here and as I fly out the door I am sending you days of summer sunshine, a small afternoon rain shower to cool you off, lots of ice cubes in the frig and more than a few moments to find a good book and park yourself under a tree.

Happy June…….

Always,
