It is the first day of June and I say bring on summer. I am sick of cold feet, turning on the furnace, and wearing my winter jacket. Global warming in Wisconsin is global un-warming. To say that the last two months have been a whirl is not saying enough. The book tour for Searching for Paradise in Parker, P.A. was wonderful and I met so many fabulous readers and booksellers and I want to thank each and every one of you who came to meet me and dipped your toes into Paradise. I really love to tour because it gives me a chance to meet you -- and you are all so very important to me and what I do. When I was in Pittsburgh two women came to see me who had driven five~!! hours one way and then they turned around and drove home. A couple of women in Alabama also drove a long distance and in one city a wonderful librarian came who was given the day off by her boss because they love my books so much and she wanted to meet and get some signed copies. In Michigan I stopped breathing when the lovely women's choir, Sistrum, showed up to sing to me. There was not a dry eye in the house and I am pleased to let you know the choir is moving ahead with plans to turn my poetry into songs that they will perform all over the place next year. How cool is that…~! I will keep you posted. I am touched and charged myself by your stories and what you give back to me and it means so much to me when you send me a note or let me know what happened in your life after you finished reading one of my novels. So I washed all my dirty clothes, threw away one suitcase that finally fell apart, took a little nap and then jumped right back into the next novel - The Shortest Distance Between Two Women. It was hard on tour not to keep my head in this book but I really wanted to focus on meeting people and signing books so I have been flying now that I am back to my writing -- which is my paradise. Okay -- there is lots of "other" news too. My daughter, Rachel, graduates from high school next week (She is also looking for a full-time summer job if anyone has any hints…~!) and will be attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison next year with her brother. She is going to major in international business and minor in Spanish while she still sings, maybe plays soccer and leaps into the college life. We've been attending lots of banquets and award ceremonies - her team just won conference! - and I am proud of her and have decided not to sell her after all. Her bother finished a stellar year at Madison is on his first-ever road trip, appears to be in love, and is working one full and a part time job this summer. Him I'm keeping also. My father continues his battle with a myriad of problems and I try to help my mom as much as possible. He had his leg amputated in January and he is now having some severe problems with the other one. It's a lot but he somehow manages to keep his good humor and when I took him to get his new leg he called it Stumpy and told me I could borrow it anytime I wanted to. Here's some big news too. The house is on the market and we have had a lot of lookers. On Sept 1 Madonna and I will be relocating to California for at least five months so I can complete some serious research on the seventh novel and hole up to write. I will also be doing events up and down the coast and will keep you informed. We will be living in a tiny box near San Jose. Madonna has been accepted in a primer sommelier school, which has been on her list of dreams for a long time, and that will bring her many new life and professional opportunities. Also, because of moving and some of my family responsibilities, which will have me going back and forth a lot, I am going to have to postpone the Radish Retreat. Please watch the site and when I reschedule it you will be the first to know. That's enough news for one day. I hope you continue to walk and live and break in your own paradise every single moment of every day. Always in Paradise (especially because I am writing again…),
