In Wisconsin, where I am hunkered down and trying REALLY hard to get some writing done, summer seems to last like 14 seconds. Geeze. And so I am dodging teenagers and their 24-7 schedules, moving the sprinklers every 20 minutes (Have I mentioned how much I HATE grass?) thinking about golf all of the time, pulling weeds, gazing out the window and trying to throw some pages down. It ain't easy, but everyone keeps telling me I am going to miss the wildness that having an almost-20-year-old and an almost-18-year-old around brings into the house. Ha….~!! Isn't that funny? I think when these two birds leave the nest they will be ready to fly. I am also imagining that I will have so much quiet (oh please) that I may be able to write five books a year. We'll see. June flipped past like a jet. Holy cow already. This is the first week of July and I do have to say that I am making progress in spite of all the slamming doors and missed curfews. I spent several days sitting in the yard with a lot of water going over the edits for Searching for Paradise in Parker, PA. It's a lot of work to do that because it's essentially my last chance to change anything -- but it really was exhilarating. When I read at this stage of the literary game, I am reading as more of an editor than an author and it gives me a totally different feel for the book. So I am here to say that even after all this work and time and sweating and swearing I am REALLY proud of this novel. I can kind of tell when I am onto something when I am crying one moment and laughing so hard the next the neighbors rush over to offer assistance. I also have two bits of news. Ready? Searching for Paradise in Parker, PA. will be my first novel in hardcover and it will be released on April 1. This is all good stuff and I know some of you will be sad the book will not be out at the end of January but it really is great news for my career as it throws me into a new arena. I've also been working hard on the novel after that - stay tuned for the title - and I'm at the point where my fingers cannot keep up with my brain. This is a good sign and I am having fun with this story and the characters are driving me nuts as well. In two weeks I have a small tour in Michigan, see the times and places on my events page, and I am hoping to see some of you there. We'll be focusing on The Sunday List of Dreams and a few other things as well, so if you can, please come join me. I have been golfing a lot and keeping to my gym schedule and have now realized that I need to crank up working out just a notch or two higher. Sigh. Anyone under 40 reading this -- get going now and save yourself some workout agony when you are in your 50's. I actually love working out - especially when I am done - and I take paper with me because it's a good place to let my mind wander and work on the novels. The rest of the summer plans include writing, lack of sleep from waiting up to see if the children are alive, more golf, maybe a little motorcycle ride and a few other projects that I hope to share with you in next month's letter. If you haven't put your feet up yet this summer -- get to it. I love the hot nights where we can sit in the yard without a snowmobile suit on and sip a little wine while the stars come out. Next time I do that I'm going to send each one of you a big Radish kiss. When you see a falling star -- it will be a gift from me to you. Make a wish…~!!! Always,
