I am one of those foolish hearts who loves fall. Maybe it's because it's my birthday month -- September 18 if anyone wants to send me large gifts or adopt my teenager daughter until she graduates from college -- but I love this time of year.

The leaves are already turning in my part of the world and I hope you are all turning the pages of Annie Freeman's Fabulous Traveling Funeral and getting ready for my next novel, The Sunday List of Dreams.

August kind of went by in a blur, didn't it? My son left for college and that was quite an event -- but he is so excited and so ready for this next step in his life that the quiet house seems a little bit easier to take.

Half the month, it seems, was a long sleepover, going away, going to miss my friends party. I think we set a record for the number of nights all the beds in the basement were filled -- 12. The gang had a ball and truth be told -- I am going to miss them all.

Club soccer season started, so there are shin guards and stinky shoes all over the place again and I am very, very, very glad that daughter Rachel starts her junior year of high school in just a few days. Did I say I was very happy about this?

I also took my first ever long motorcycle overnight trip and rode about 500 miles in two days all on back roads and all with my helmet on. Anyone who can get a copy of October's Wisconsin Trails Magazine will see a very fun article I wrote about what it was like to take the motorcycle class.

Speaking of magazines, the very coolest mention of Annie appears on page 24 of the September 12 issue of Women's Day magazine. I want to buy Deborah Chute a very large glass of wine and kiss her on the face. Thank you Deborah from Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, who recommended the book.

I also continue to do lots of book talks via the phone with book clubs and readers across the country. Remember, if you want to get in on this check out the Bantam Dell link on my home page and you will see how this works. We always have a really good time and I love the questions and learning about the women and the men (mostly women!) who read my books.

The Sunday List of Dreams is about ready to start cranking through the presses and is set for a Feb. 1, 2007 release. You can pre-order the book at any and all of your favorite bookstores and the moment I hear about dates and places for a book tour I will let you all know.

I am slipping into my very hard and heavy writing season now. My heart and soul and fingers and legs and every piece of who I am will be going into Searching for Paradise in Parker, PA. I have already made terrific progress on this book and I LOVE the story and the characters, and I think you will go crazy when you read this book. You can at least blame me for that.

There is also a lovely glimmer of the novel after that bouncing around inside of my head... must be the fine summer wines I have been drinking.

I hope the tail end of summer finds you laughing into the face of the fall winds and doing at least one thing that you have always wanted to do.

Get going -- Annie would have wanted you to and so do I.

Always,
