photo by Deone Jahnke Welcome to my world, my garden, my wild and busy and absolutely wonderful life as a woman, sister, daughter, mother, partner, writer and just like you - at least a thousands other things as well.

I have been a writer my entire life and that path has taken me down some very interesting roads. I started out working on a tomato farm in my small Wisconsin hometown and from there waitressed my way through college, worked as a professional Girl Scout, newspaper reporter, camp director, columnist, bureau chief, magazine writer, university instructor, bartender, window washer and once, honest -- I actually crawled on my hands and knees through a variety of lovely mountain fields to collect night crawlers for a bait shop.

Anyone who calls me an overnight success -- well, step outside buster.

I now write for women, about women, to women, and I do that from a very deep and true spot right in the center of my heart.

My first two novels, The Elegant Gathering of White Snows and Dancing Naked at the Edge of Dawn were very successful and as Annie Freeman's Fabulous Traveling Funeral gets ready to hit the streets I think women will find a part of themselves on those pages as well.

My fourth novel, The Sunday List of Dreams is on the home stretch and I am happy to report the fifth novel is simmering in a lively golden river right behind my eyes that is about to spill over its banks.

When I write I hold absolutely nothing back. I write as a woman to women and for women in a way that exposes our common denominators, our hopes, dreams, failings, passions and longings. My writing, I think, helps lead us all home, makes us feel it is just fine to be who we are and also fine to dance naked, laugh a lot and live every second with a breath of "what the hell" spilling from our lungs.

The twenty seconds a week I am not writing I do not stray far from my life's cause of empowering women. I travel to book fairs and conventions to bar rooms and backrooms to private gatherings and events all over the country to speak, lead workshops and talk to the women, and the very smart men, who read my work.

I love to hear from my readers, love to talk to book clubs, love to drink wine, ride my motorcycle, hike, play tennis, drink more wine, sing in the shower, watch my son go off to college, my daughter play soccer, sing, dance, act and look for a part-time job to pay for her clothes habit and I try not to miss one second of what life might throw in my way.

Now go grab a book and come dance naked with me...

As Always,
